A Mechanical Vibration problem: Help, plz?? We have a spring w/ stiffness k1 attached to a mass m1 which is attached to another spring of stiffness k2 which is itself attached to another mass m2. All lie horizontally. k1=k2. and m1=m2. The question is this: Find the motion x1 of the mass m1 (which is between the two springs) if the mass m2 is all of the sudden struck by a 2kg mass moving at velocity Vi (for subscript i=impulse speed). The collision which follows for the fraction of time delta-t is perfectly elastic. This is a 2-dof problem, but i am struggling w/ impulse vibration.
