The way our governmental system was laid out was for the people to be able to conduct it's own security (A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms), "those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," Benjamin Franklin. For this reason the states were set up as a Republic and the Federal Government; the House, Senate, and Judiciary was set up as a Democracy. The founders knew government eventually becomes corrupt and thus threatens individual liberty, for this reason We the people are given the ability to keep the Government in line.
