Water molecules move farther apart when water freezes, causing it to expand. Which of the following is a consequence of this property? Water is considered to be a universal solvent. The water in lakes and ponds freezes from the top down. Only a limited amount of solute can be dissolved in a sample of water. Objects with a higher density than water can be observed floating on water. I'm thinking D?
ever seen a chunk of rock floating on top of LIQUID water?
no
so it can't be D. A and C are all true, but they don't have anything to do with the freezing of water.
I didnt think ponds could freeze from the top down
you don't live in an area where rivers freeze on a regular basis, do you?
ever seen pictures of the arctic ocean? or ice fishing?
florida lol
yes but the whole thing freezes?
the whole thing? no. but the surface will freeze, sometimes several feet thick.
in northern NH, where I live, ponds will freeze about 12" thick, but the liquid water underneath stays around 4 degrees, all winter long. fish and other animals stay in that layer to survive.
Oh I knew that. I thought it was saying they freeze all the way..okay. thanks
