OpenStudy (destinymasha):

Civil War?

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

-i got this from yahoo

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

the American civil war was a time in the 1800's where both the north side of the country and the south side both disagreed about one thing. Slaves. Slaves were African Americans, who had been forced to live their lives with little or no pay doing a job a white man wouldn't want to do. In this time period, one of my favorite presidents, Abraham Lincoln, made something called the emancipation proclamation freeing the slaves. The south really didn't like this. They threatened to break away from the union, and form their own country where they could do whatever. Abraham Lincoln didn't like the thought of a divided country. From there, the war got more and more progressive until it finally ended when general Lee of the south surrendered. For the north it was a great victory, but the south felt alone, defeated, and welcomed them back. (This is the first lesson. The civil war changed American society by letting people know the slaves were free, and could no longer be forced to work with no pay. The second lesson is the civil war taught the country that a country divided, could not stand, just like Lincoln said. A country that is at war with itself, and at war with it's people will not solve or help anything. It will only make it worse. The country has learned from that, and now treats everyone as equals, and is closer than ever before.)

can you short it up ?

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

In the 1800's - the north and the south had a disagreement. The south was pro-slavery and the north was anti-slavery. It was because of this , President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, signed the Emancipation Proclamation-freeing the slaves. Obvioulsy, the southerners were angry about this. As said before, Abraham Lincoln knew that ''a house divided against itself cannot stand'' [after the south threatened to secede from the union]That is what started the Civil War. Finally General Lee surrendered. -This The civil war changed American society by letting people know the slaves were free, and could no longer be forced to work with no pay. The second lesson is the civil war taught the country that a country divided, could not stand, . A country that is at war with itself, and at war with it's people will not solve or help anything.

OpenStudy (destinymasha):

The Civil War started with the south and the north having a disagreement about slavery. After President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation proclamation on January 1, 1863 -freeing all slaves. The south got angry and threatened to secede from the union. After a while of fighting, General Lee surrendered-this taught the US that a house divided itself cannot stand and that war only makes some thing worse.
