For example, you could give all 4 pieces to one kid, and since there are 4 kids, you can do this 4 times. But you could also give each of them one piece of candy. And since they are all different pieces, you have 4! ways of distributing it out such that each kid gets one piece. But you could also have the candy divided up among 3 kids while 1 kid gets none in several ways too.
