A cell phone company is offering two special plans for students. Plan A 8.95 per month flat rate and .10 per local call. Plan B 30.00 per month including monthly fee and unlimited local calls. Which plan is the better buy? Explain.
Wouldn't it be Plan B? It stays at $30 doesn't increase since it has unlimited local calls. For Plan A, sure its $8.95 but add 10 cents for every call you make adds up.
Yeh but still if there are 12 months you still need to multiply to see how much adds up
Which plan is better depends on the number of calls made per month. Let x be the number of calls made per month. With Plan A, the cost will be: 8.95 + 0.1x With Plan B, the cost will be: $30. Plan A will be better as long as: 8.95 + 0.1x < 30 Solve for x.
8.95 + 0.1x < 30 0.1x < 30 - 8.95 0.1x < 21.05 x < 21.05 / 0.1 x < 210.5 So if the number of calls made per month is less than or equal to 210, Plan A is better. If more than 210 calls are made per month, Plan B is better.
