In a certain triangle, the measure of the largest angle is 40 degrees more than the measure of the middle sized angle. If the measure of the smallest angle is 20 degrees, what is the degree measure of the largest angle?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Okay...think of it like this...the interior angles of a triangle add up to what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

180

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

right...you know that 1 angle is 20...so 180 - 20 = 160 We have 160 degrees to work with... Lets call the middle angle "x" That means that the larger angle is x + 40 right? We also know that these 2 angles must add up to the 160...so x + x + 40 = 160 Can you solve this from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, thank you so much :D

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

No problem! :)
