Do not create two different cases. This is an eyeball problem. Just look at it, wave your hands in the air, and shout "No Solution". x+1 is either positive or negative. |x+1| is not EVER negative. -5|x+1| is not EVER positive. 10 is positive. Can you think of ANY negative number that is equal to +10? There is none.
