Quick question? Okay so I have this data The mean is 79 for A 85.13 for Class B. Median for A is 85 and the median for B is 86 then I was asked this question Explain how the values for Classes A and B vary about the mean and median. What information does this give Mrs. Smith?

@Punkchick

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Still Ms. Smith.. :P

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

D: I got proof practices to do and it's much harder than this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UsukiDoll if you know how to do it please help me? I don't know how to this and I have to send in work this week that's a 65% or i'll get dropped out of my class.

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

Mrs. Smith needs a new person because I'm trying to prove that (A+B)+b = A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not Mrs. Smith Mrs. Smith is the woman in the problem but I don't understand what they mean by "how the values for Classes A and B vary about the mean and median."

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

I am solving A for you.. mean(A) = 79 median(A) = 85 How numbers vary about the mean and median? Higher frequency of numbers with magnitude > mean

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Also, more deviation in numbers with magnitude < mean

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

@lolloveyou Can you explain my conclusions ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Thank you I knew the Mean for A was 79 and the median for A is 85 I wrote that and the mean for B is 85.13 and the median for B is 86. and thank you for telling me how the numbers vary but what information does that give Mrs. Smith?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH.Thank you.

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

It's hard to predict what women can extract from any innocent data..:P

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

@UsukiDoll Where did intersection and union came from ??

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

@lolloveyou Can you tell me how the numbers vary about mean and median for B ??

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

@UsukiDoll I mean..how are they related to the question ?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

oh sorry...hijacked the thread :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was that an accident?

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

yeah.. I'm like half sleepy and half practicing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The median is 86 and the mean is 85.13 thats how they vary

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You really got out of hand.

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

@lolloveyou For the part related to Ms Smith...I'll need to see the complete question..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was the complete question but I think I figured it out thank you.

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When the median and mean are near the same, it means you have a lot of balance between people below and above the average. If the median is lower than average, then that means there are good students increasing the mean while most students are actually below it. If the median is higher, then you have a few bad students really holding down the mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Wio seems like you know the whole question! lol wow. Thanks.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wio @LastDayWork @UsukiDoll I have one more question if one of you would like to help? I'm going to start a new thread

OpenStudy (usukidoll):

@wio could..... need to focus on something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm going to sleep soon.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wio just 5 minutes it'll take 5 minutes I swear

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Post your question..I'll see what I can do :)
