Mrs. Smith gives three quizzes before each test, she allows each student to drop their lowest test grade during the grading period and replace it with the average of their quiz grades. The grades in red below were replaced with the average quiz grades.

Part 1: How does this change the data for Classes A and C? Part 2: Based upon these changes which of the three classes did the best on the exam? Justify your answer.

These aren't analytical Q's...so I am not sure what's the best answer. The replacement obviously improves a students overall grade, hence more the number of replacements, higher the class average rises. For Part 2: You need to find and compare the central tendency (probably mean) for each class.

what am I comparing the mean to?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

The class with the highest average did the best..Simply calculate the mean and rank the classes according to it..

Okay 82 is the mean for Class A but heres the twist the grades in red were replaced by average quiz grades so when adding the numbers up to find the mean I don't add the numbers that are red right?

"..Part 2: (Based upon these changes) which of the three classes did the best on the exam? Justify your answer.." Implies you have to include the red digits..
