Slaves were usually forced into labor work all day. They would not get paid. However, many of these slaves were traded and exported to different countries in return for food, money etc. Also, their lifestyle was very sad. Slaves were mostly separated from their families. Slave owners would force men into outside work (hard work) and the women in the house making the food or either put outside to bring in the agriculture being planted. Many of these slaves were treated as if they were animals which meant they were used as a piece of junk.
