I think i should OS should have a feature to change the username.. i v;e been looking all over for it and i couldn't find it.. it's look troublesome... Also... there is this problem.. when a new user is signing up they r allowed to use special characters for their username.. i add *** as a result. but using these have technical problems. i mean when someone mention my name in a question that question become unable to view for anyone. when i asked about this problem they say that the *** signs could be the problem. and the solution i have is only to create a new account :( ..
I am sorry 'bout your problems and this website is a bit glitchy for me 2.
but if i could change my username i wouldnt have to face that problem so I ask the OS authorities kindly to make it possible for users to change username or if u cant do that PlS INFORM THIS FACT WHEN NEW USERS LOG IN... so they wont face this problem like me.. If u prevent them from using special characters they will not face this in the future.. but if u dont mention this.. more will sufffer the same technical problem THANKS
I will tell all da people. ;} )
tnx.. it will help others
I totally agree! Sometimes people don't want to stick with the same user name, and for whatever reason/motivation, the people should have the right to change their names also for personal reasons, and for reasons of convenience and such :) Post this is Thomaster's suggestion box, and your ideas will be considered :) And there should be something in the OS system that doesn't allow users to use special characters in the beginning of a username… not entirely sure how this could be enforced.R Really, if you ask me, I don't think special characters should be allowed
yup i think @Undercover_Agent was correct do what they say.
The feature to change the username might be a distant target; but restricting the domain of characters for the same shouldn't be that difficult. ISURU, if you are going to submit it in thomaster's feed, consider making two separate suggestions.
I was once told the username is used as the ID in the OS database. So it links tables to other tables. You can't change that ID, since it's not a variable. It would have to be manually changed everywhere in the database, and that is a huge job. If there was a number as ID and in one table that number was linked to a username, then it would be easy to change the name. But I guess that's not the case here.
It's exactly as Thosenpai said.
then wt could be the problem @thomaster ?
@thomaster What about the second point ISURU raised ?? User's aren't aware that using special characters cause trouble with tagging..
Try to deal with my errors..XD
yea they should only allow normal letters (A-Z), numbers (0-9) and a few characters ( like . and - ) I'm surprised they didn't implement this already, since I think it wouldn't be that hard.
:)
I totally agree that you should be able to change your username. Not that I would, because my username is awesome, right?
Users should not be able to change their usernames. Your name is your identity. It is how others identify you. Imagine the chaos if you could swap your world identity at will - your name, your face, your body, everything - whenever you wanted. No one would know who they would be dealing with. People could impersonate other people. It would be an unacceptable, impossible, entirely unethical mess even if it could be done. Which it can't.
