How do you find power (statistics)? a general explanation would be appreciated
please could i get a summary? wiki is too difficult for me :/
Statistical power is the probability of correctly rejecting the null hypothesis. The larger the effect size, the more likely you are to reject, so the power is higher. Lower alphas are associated with lower power, and higher alphas with higher power. Large sample sizes result in higher power.
that doesn't really answer my question tho :/ how do you FIND power?
K hold up.
?
Power analysis can be used to calculate the minimum sample size required so that one can be reasonably likely to detect an effect of a given size. Power analysis can also be used to calculate the minimum effect size that is likely to be detected in a study using a given sample size. There is also the concept of a power function of a test, which is the probability of rejecting the null when the null is true
