there should be an open chat room, it would be a great addition to openstudy! and a study buddy feature, where people can easily connect in real time with others studying similar material. Just a thought...

OpenStudy does the "social" in social learning rather well. Between the chats for actual socialising, and the conversation thread approach to the forums.

The Study Buddy idea - where users are paired off into student-tutor or student-student or even tutor-mentor duos - is very intriguing though. Wonder how we could implement that. Though it would definitely be a few weeks or months down the road, as restructuring the ambie program is taking quite a bit of attention at the moment..
