the Second Great Awakening was greatly a movement to improve the morality of the country. As a result, people felt empowered to work for reform. This eventually led to temperance movements.
The most important overlap between the two was both the great awakening and the reform movements were concerned with improving the moral fiber of the nation, often the poor. This lead both groups to be very strongly against alcohol which eventually led to prohibition.
