Yesterday, the hiker began hiking at 2850 ft above sea level, climbed over a 5575 foot-high summit and descended 2695 ft before stopping for the night. What was the hikers net gain or loss of elevation during the day? How did you get your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Net gain or loss = where she ended - where she started = 2695 - 2850 = -155 So, her net loss in elevation (since it's negative) is 155 feet
