A falling 1.0 kg ball has a velocity of 6 m/s just before it strikes the ground. It then bounces upward with a velocity of 4 m/s. What is the impulse on the ball? 1.5 Ns 2.0 Ns 10 Ns 24 Ns

OpenStudy (roadjester):

What defines impulse?

OpenStudy (roadjester):

@thibui

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't it the change in momentum?

OpenStudy (roadjester):

correct. so can you calculate the initial and final momentum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

initial p = 6 and final p = 4 ... so 2.0 Ns?

OpenStudy (roadjester):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! :)

OpenStudy (roadjester):

No prob

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i worked out the problem again and it made sense; every time i do it, the answer is 2.0 Ns, but when i picked that for my answer, it says it's incorrect. do you know why that may be? @roadjester

OpenStudy (roadjester):

No I don't sorry. I know that a lot of times people over think things. I think I'm UNDER thinking things. :(
