OpenStudy (anonymous):

A ∩ B=Ø , B ∩ C ={x | x = 5}

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

Yah I was really confused :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[A \cup B=\]{x | x < 1 or x ≥ 5}

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

@phi

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

I know this is a multi-part question. If you could even help me do the first one, I would probably be able to figure out how to do the rest :)

OpenStudy (phi):

must gave you most of the answers.

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

I know, but I want to know how to do it, not just the answers

OpenStudy (phi):

First, memorize U means union, which means OR \( \cap\) means intersection and means AND (at the same time)

OpenStudy (phi):

A U B we look at A and B: x < 1 U x ≥ 5 change the U to OR x < 1 or x≥ 5 look for that choice

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

The second one on the right! :)

OpenStudy (phi):

now do A U C copy A and C x < 1 U x = 5 what is U? Union = OR put in or: x < 1 or x=5

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

I think U = union?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes U means union, which translates into "or" for these problems

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

Oh! And that's the fourth one!

OpenStudy (phi):

now try B U C do what I did

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

sorry my computer crashed ;/

OpenStudy (phi):

B U C x ≥ 5 U x = 5 x ≥ 5 or x=5 notice that x≥5 includes x=5, so we can simplify that to just x≥5

OpenStudy (phi):

did you finish this question ?

OpenStudy (pixiedust1):

Yes! Thank you so much for your help! :)
