Feature: I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but is it possible OS can get a "random" section/ "sub forum", where we can ask random questions or philosophical questions, and have an intriguing discussion about it. Ex. "Considering the size of the Universe, do you believe in aliens?" or even talk about latest news etc, without having to talk in certain "chats" in subject sections, where it can go offtrack or even lost once you leave.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe it exists, but I just haven't discovered it yet :o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i support him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks ^.^

OpenStudy (secret66):

Maybe you can ask these questions in Chats?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the problem though, you lose the history on these kinds of topics, and if you leave and come back you would have to scroll all the way up to see if anyone else mentioned anything relating to it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with what you say because sometimes i need to ask questions which are random but there are no topics to go with it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@secret66 you can't put them in chats because they are social chats to talk to eachother

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i support @iambatman ^-^

OpenStudy (secret66):

xD okay

thomaster (thomaster):

OS could get such a section, but I fear it will become an off-topic spam group like the chat. That's exactly what we don't want here. If you wan't to discuss the universe and aliens, just pick a random dead chat (like the design chat) and pm users about it. That way you won't get annoying kids and spammers.

OpenStudy (secret66):

^LOL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thomaster could be right, but I also want a subject for all the questions that people have. I have been wanting this to be a subject for a while.

OpenStudy (xmoses1):

What about a 'Life' section where people could ask basic questions about life and get advice form people? That wouldn't be spam I don't think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If only there was a way to restrict it to certain people or levels so spammers can't join mhm .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The problem with random dead chats I believe is that if we ever want to revive what we were taking about earlier you would have to scroll up and people might lose interest in the certain topic, and I believe not everyone would be interested to look in the chats, or eventually just forget about it. Would also be tedious telling people :P. This might sound like a lot of work, but I think it could work, what if...this was a secret section and at a certain SS level (60 or so) you would unlock this section and until then it would be "instance" for the people who already are that certain SS or above it, make getting certain SS worth while :P. I would like to see this section because I know everyone has interesting questions just no place to put them. @thomaster yes, no? Not worth the time and effort?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think that it should be open for everybody, but if a person or group of people abuse it, they should just not get to use it. I also think that we need to think of the name the subject would be called.

OpenStudy (timaashorty):

I think that's brilliant idea.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for the support guys ^.^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is how someone like shamil could get SS 99 in a week. The SS is already undermined enough as it is. So this would only make sense if medals didn't mean anything in these topics.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah we can have it so there is no medal system for this section, it will be special :P

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Interesting....SUPPORT!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree 100% with iambatman, but I also think that many other subjects or sub-subjects should be made. Check thomasters suggestion box for a list of my ideas.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah I saw them, the reason why I also made this was because instead of having like a million other subjects we can just ask intriguing questions on just one section. But, I do like the subjects you recommended. Astronomy <3

OpenStudy (snowcrystal):

i agree with you @iambatman

OpenStudy (blues):

I agree with Thomaster. Such a section would quickly become a chatroom pretending to be a forum. That said, I take a pretty lenient view to such questions asked in the forums. Do aliens exist is a perfectly legitimate biologic question (i.e., biology is literally the "study" of "bio" which means "life" - and alien life is perfectly legitimate). In fact, astrobiology is a widely accepted and perfectly legitimate field that deals with precisely this question in an academic context. So as long as the discussion of such questions remains relatively empirical and to the same intellectual standards as discussions of more standard academic topics, I have no problem with them showing up in the groups.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But you guys are mods, you only see the worst in people :c, haha.

OpenStudy (timaashorty):

If it becomes a chat room you can then close it. Or people would report. I think this is a great idea. It will make open study even more funner, and gives an opportunity for people to ask different questions. Look at math, many people use it, but is it turning into a chat room ? nope. As long as you put the rules out there, hardly anyone is going to disagree. This is a reason why mods are here, to check who's following the rules, and what's going on. Just because a few people may turn this into a chat room does not mean everyone will. It's not fair to stop such a great feature because a few may not listen.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For everyone saying it would be a bad idea to have this. you are wrong in my opinion. timaashorty is right, why would you not allow a great feature, when most people will follow the rules. It is not fair to all of the people on OS that follow and respect the rules, and want there to be a other subject box.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@OrangeMaster you are the best i support you ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks, you're the best too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem what you say is exactly right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think this is a great idea, @iambatman. I said the same ting a while ago; having a 'life' section. A few people agreed, but like what has all ready been said they feel it could get too out of control. :/ People dont know how to follow rules....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is a really good idea you should send it in the Openstudy suggestion box. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1gbJyuidaelKd6L9uwX68yWGdF5sSUKGGPSIW1EFH7To/viewform

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Preetha Would something like this be possible?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Nobody will study anymore.

OpenStudy (♪chibiterasu):

It's been discussed before and we agreed it would attract spam, trolls and unwanted and/or unnecessary attention. Much more to add to that. The one place where we share funny things and hang out sometimes is the Design section, but we don't hang around there as much as we used to. Back during the mini-me era. :P

OpenStudy (primeralph):

I'll be the one trolling the most.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

@iambatman You can just make a post in \(\LaTeX\) Practicing and just put a bit of latex in the post and all is well ;)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

And ask anything you want there, spam it up =P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is from a year ago

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

But there was no solution offered, so I gave you one :P

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @iambatman But you guys are mods, you only see the worst in people :c, haha. \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) I hope this is not true ;)
