OpenStudy (majikdusty):

Your spacecraft flies along the curve You hope to send a message in a bottle to your home planet located at the point: (43769, 110019, 71269) a. When should you release the bottle so that it reaches your home planet? b. How long will it travel from the time you release it to when it arrives home? We are aloud to use software such as Mathematica to solve this problem, but I'm not quite sure how to tackle it.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Any point on curve : \(\large <t^5+t+1, 100t^3+t+1, 10t^4+t+1> \)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

point u want ur bottle reach to : \(\large(43769, 110019, 71269)\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

At any time, when u release the bottle, the bottle wud go "tangential" to the curve. (ignore other gravitaional fields)
