What are the four main criteria necessary for the diagnosis of anorexia?
•Restriction of food intake leading to weight loss or a failure to gain weight •Have a distorted view of themselves •Fear of becoming fat or of gaining weight •Binge-Eating; person regularly engages in binge eating and purging behaviors, such as self-induced vomiting and/or the misuse of laxatives
Not according to the DSM IV. I was just diagnosed today. Weighing 85% or less of an average healthy body weight for your age and height. Has a need for perfection and/or viewing his/her body as overweight when underweight. Restricts calories to less than 800 a day, feels awful about themselves when broken. A fear of gaining weight and/or being fat and/or being deemed less than perfect. There are two types. Purging type, and non-purging type. Purging- binge and/OR purge, less than 2 times a week though. (Or else they would be Bulimic) Non-purging-They only restrict, no 'screw-ups' or vomiting to feel better.
thanks guys
