A square is circumscribed about a circle. What is the ratio of the area of the circle to the area of the square?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

|dw:1392774964930:dw|

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is the area of the circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Pi( k^2)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That is supposed to be an x so yes. The area of the circle is pix^2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is the area of the square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to include a picture of the problem but i am new and i dont know how to include it.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How do you find the area of a square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The formula is (2r)^2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What is 2x times 2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Usually we say A=s^2 for squares

OpenStudy (anonymous):

s is a side. What's the length of a side of the square?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The asker is gone. Guess we are the only ones left interested in this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait i got confused

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@Jenny17 If you want to attach your problem, you need to click on "Attac File" beneath the reply box.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

*Attach File

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont have that button

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Okay that depends on what device you're using. I know that when using my iPad I can't attach a file. You need to use a laptop or a desktop, to use the Attach File button.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i am using in on an ipad

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Just as I told you. Do you have a desktop or a laptop nearby?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Mertsj why did you do 2x times 2x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@calculusxy i dont have access to one right now

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Because the side of the square is 2x and you find the area of the square by multiplying side times side which is 2x times 2x

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

That's fine. As long you get the basics of the problem @Jenny17

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

How about this way to help you with the problem. Why don't you seperately find the area of the circle and the square and then find the ratios of the area.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do we write down 4x or 2x ^2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

2x times 2x = 4x^2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So write down 4x^2

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Area of a square= \[s^{2}\] (side squared)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know what the answer is but i just dont know how to do it.
