The sign at the entrance of a store reads,"30% off all winter apparel! Discount given at the register." The price tag of a coat is missing. The register rings up a price before tax $55.93. What is the regular price of coat?... i got $79.90 am i right or wrong? And also i am troubling knowing wether to multiply the percent(30%) to $55.93 or to subtract 100-30 to get 70 and then divide 55.93 by 0.70.. How can i know which way is the correct, is there like key words... thanks

Use proportions 55.93/x=70/100 because the 55.93 represents 70 percent of the original price tag. Cross multiply to get your answer 70x=5593 X=79.9 before tax
