A thesis statement is the point that you wish to get across to your reader. It is the central idea of your essay and it should go in the introductory paragraph and it must create an argument. It should also provide some indication of why your argument is persuasive. 

An example of a good thesis statement is: "The ability to purchase television advertising is essential for any candidate's bid for election to the Senate because television reaches millions of people and thus has the ability to dramatically increase name recognition."
