The diagram shows a rhombus ABCD. The points B and D have coordinates (2,10) and (6,2) respectively, and A lies on the x-axis. The midpoint of BD is M. Find, by calculation, the coordinates of each of M, A and C.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know that M is(4,6) and A is(-8,0) but C?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

Can we see the diagram, or do we have to construct it ourselves?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

hint : M is the midpoint of segment AC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh i get it now thank you!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

cool :) rhombus => diagonals bisect each other

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

it's late, how do we know that the x coordinate of A = -8?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

@azazell how did u find A ? did u solve below : 1)y = 0 2) line thru M, perp to BD ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

or is there any other easy way ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

oh, didn't think of the perpendicular line equation, duh. Like I said, it's late :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

hey hey, just hit 99 for problem solving component of SS... :-)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ahhh congratulations @whpalmer4 :))

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

thanks! I think I can go to sleep now :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ha!congratulations im still new :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

lol u should sleep probably its very late in the night there in US.. .

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

my senior manager's name at work is Bill -.-

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I'm in California, so it's coming up on 2 AM. Not TOO late, but not early, either! It's interesting to watch how the problems that are posted on the forum change as the day goes on — have you noticed that, @ganeshie8?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

@azazell let me take a moment to welcome u officially :) \(\large \color{purple}{\text{Welcome to OpenStudy !!!!}}\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yeah guess it gets updated every 1 minute or so... very intelligent/mindful design from OS designers :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

no, I mean the types of problems that show up...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awww u guys r so nice! XDDD

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

California ! the silicon valley of planet earth XD

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

not only lots of silicon, plenty of silicone, too ;-)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

lol OS goes dead after u folks in USA sleep... for the next 4-5 hours there wont be much activity -.-

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

silicone ?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

lots of women with surgical enhancements...too much money sloshing around

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

i knw oly about silicon hehe ... i live in bangalore.. this is also the silicon valley of india !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

lol u hinting plastic surgeries... i got u :P
