well, the hen came first through evolution, then started to lay eggs as a method of reproduction.

trees, or plants for that matter are similar to the hen/egg cycle. trees grew, then evolved to better reproduce by growing seeds and spreading them in various ways.

without the original traits/dna stuff, you can't make something that spawns into an already/halfway evolved state of life
