ribonucleotide and deoxyribonucleotide differs in hydrogen atom at 2 carbon of sugar.ribonucleotide has OH group in 2C of sugar and is reduced by the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase (oxygen removed from 2C) to form deoxyribonucleotide which has H at 2C.since Oxygen is removed it is called deoxy.2C carbon at second position.

Check the images attached - the 2nd carbon has oxygen in ribonucleotide and there is no oxygen on 2nd carbon in deoxyribonucleotide hence it is named so.
