why when you mix Epsom salt and water is the reaction endothermic?

Welcome to OpenStudy. Well, when you mix salt into water, what happens? It dissolves. When something dissolves, what does this mean to its bonds?

it dissolves with this happening: MgSO4 . 7H2O(s) --> MgSO4(aq) ΔH = + 6.5 kJ that is an endothermic happening, the water will get colder as it loses its heat energy to the MgSO4(aq)
