Pro - before karyote - nucleus? Haha.

OpenStudy (rina.r):

WELCOME TO OS:) Prokaryotes are organisms made up of cells that lack a cell nucleus or any membrane-encased organelles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are two cell types in the living world : 1. eukaryotes ( have a true nucleus ie a nucleus bound by nuclear membrane) 2. prokaryotes (have a primitive nucleus ie nucleus without a nuclear membrane) All organisms found on earth can either be classified as prokaryotes or eukaryotes. So under prokaryotes you have bacteria and archaea whereas remaining every other organism be it protists , fungi , plants and animals come under eukaryotes. prokaryotes are always single celled but you have single celled eukaryotes also.So if somebody says that all single celled organisms are prokaryotes don't buy that statement , its wrong.
