I need help please! Explain why the triangles are similar. Then find the value of x. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=309o7wx&s=8#.UwbSJ5_TnqA

OpenStudy (triciaal):

short version crossing parallel lines; angles are equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you find the value of x?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

#2 6/8 = 10/x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! :) Could you possible explain the first problem as well?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

same principle the angles are the same set up the ratio and solve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! I get it now. Ok. Thank you so much. :)

OpenStudy (triciaal):

7/12 = x/8 solve for x

OpenStudy (triciaal):

double check the ratios but the principle is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok. So would the answer for the first one be 4.66 repeated or 4.7 rounded up?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

7/12 = x/8 cross multiply x = 56/12 = yes please check that I set it up correctly

OpenStudy (triciaal):

8/x = 6/10 or 6/8 = 10/x

OpenStudy (triciaal):

never mind either way is correct
