(x+5)(x-3) @Jelia97

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you need the graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is for monomials

OpenStudy (lieutenantgeneral):

(x+5)(x-3) = x^2 + 2x - 15 = 16 The answer is 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x - 3)(x + 5) = x² +5x -3x -15 x² +2x -15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x^3-15?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

Jelia is correct....answer is x^2 + 2x - 15...you can do it using the FOIL method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't got to that chapter yet. Should I start on that one first?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

That is up to you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What would be the easiest ay to learn this?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

FOIL method...do you want me to explain it to you ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

FOIL stands for First, Outside, Inside, Last (x + 5)(x - 3) F -- multiply first terms in each set...x * x = x^2 O -- multiply outside terms in each set....-3 * x = -3x I -- multiply inside terms in each set...5 * x = 5x L -- multiply last terms in each set...5 * -3 = -15 now put it all together... x^2 - 3x + 5x - 15---combine like terms x^2 + 2x - 15 Voila! Easy as that. any questions ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg that is so easy thank you :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

no problem...glad to help :)
