complementary means they add up to 90 degrees. supplementary means they add up to 180

So you have an angle of 52 degrees right? You want to know what plus 52 = 90 degrees. That is x + 52 = 90. Solve for x to get the complementary angle. For supplementary, very similar: You want to know what plus 52 = 180 degrees. That is y + 52 = 180. Solve for y to get the supplementary angle.
