A certain forest covers an area of 1700km^2 . Suppose that each year this area decreases by 7.5%. What will the area be after 9years? .________. please help fast im so tired

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First, we need to convert that percent into a decimal so we can work with it. 7.5% = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.075?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct. Now, it's decreasing by that amount per year. "per" is a signal for multiplication. Let's make y a variable for years. 7.5% of 1700 per year: 1700*0.075y This is how we get how much the land has decreased after y years. We can also simplify this: 127.5y This isn't the final equation, though. This gives us how much is gone. We want how much is still there. Any idea on how to do that?

no :(
