What is the function of the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum?

the rough ER has ribosomes on it. the ribosomes manufacture proteins which are modified in the cisterna of the ER. the modified proteins are packed in vesicles which later bud off from the rough ER into the cytosol. i hope it helps =)
