How did the events of the Hundred Years' War (1337—1453) contribute to the development of national identity in Europe? By the war's end, France had achieved its current size and shape. Joan of Arc emerged as a unifying symbol of national pride for the French people. The war unified England by ending the fight over which family ruled.
