White Georgians usually describe their ancestry on the census as "American," "United States," or simply "Southern." The most likely reason for this is they do not feel pride about being American Southerners. they do not know where their ancestors came from originally. their ancestors did not live in the South. their ancestors were some of the first to settle in Georgia.
