algebra 2 HELP PLEASE!!!
Part 1: Using your own words, describe two events that are independent. Use math vocabulary that you have learned so far in this module to explain what it means when events are independent. Part 2: Define an issue that is important to you (politics, medicine, social media, education, etc.), and think about some things you might want to know about this issue. Briefly explain your issue and what you hope to learn or understand. Pose a question for which a two-way table is appropriate. Be creative here! Collect data from at least 20 people (or other sources). Display your data in a two-way frequency table like the one shown below. Your table can have more rows or columns if you need them. Choose a row and column and compare P(A | B) with P(B | A). Explain what each probability means in the context of the situation and data you collected. Compare P(A∩B) with P(A∪B), and explain what each probability means in the context of the situation and data you collected. Answer the following reflective questions about completing question 3: Why did you choose this topic? How did you collect your data? What challenges did you encounter in the data collection, data display, or data analysis? How did you overcome these challenges?
I have been having trouble on this module from the start
Wow. First of all, all of these questions, except for the first, are profound and require time and thought to answer. The first one, about independence and dependence, is a bit abstract at first.
Here's an example of two independent events: I had Raisin Bran with plain yohurt for breakfast. You had delicious blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup, along with bacon and orange slices on the side.
I just need an explanation on how to do this stuff. I have been so confused.
I don't know you, and you don't know me, unfortunately, but this makes a great example of independent events. In mathematical terms, if P(A|B) = P(A), then events A and B are independent. This statement says: Given that the event B has already happened, what is the probability of event A? If your response to that is equal to the probability of A ... which is P(A), then A and B are independent!
What does P(AlB) mean?
Jess, have you had any exposure to this material before? Without having read a textbook or online resources, without having attended a lecture, you'll have to start from scratch. I do hope you have had previous experience with this material.
Yes but only in the lesson and they didn't teach it in the lesson, they just put it there and expected us to know what it meant.
That "lesson" probably just covers the basic definitions and principles; we don't really understand the material without having first worked thru sample problems and then homework. Are you home schooled or enrolled in an online course?
online course
Have you considered buying a basic Probability and Statistics textbook?
To answer y our question (which I know will not be enough to help you understand the concept 100%): P(A | B) is the symbolic way to write, "the probability that Event A will happen, given that event B has already happened."
Going back to the questions you've posted: Display your data in a two-way frequency table like the one shown below. Have you ever seen a "two-way frequency table"? Or do you at least know what it is?
No they just keep throwing all these things at us without explaining what any of it is or means.
I'm sure you must be feeling very frustrated. I'm a math teacher, and yet I must go through examples of some concepts again and again to understand what's happening. Success in online study requires that you acquire and make use of various kinds of resource material, such as text- or reference books, online resources (e. g., Google for looking up "dependent probability," and so on.
do you have an advisor or teacher for this online course? If so, have you discussed your frustration with that person? Have you done the same with your parents? Working together, you might find some solutions, but I can't promise there will be any easy solutions.
I haven't talked to my teacher yet. I have talked to my mom and she doesn't know anything about this.
I could teach you most or all of this material from scratch, but I'd guarantee that doing that would take a long time and would not be effective u nless you yourself were looking up, listing, practicing and reviewing material all the time.
Is there no way in which you could take this class in a classroom environment? may I ask why you've ended up in an online course?
Have you any friends or acquaintances with whom you could study? Could you meet with your teacher face to face and request that you two go through some practice problems together, in person?
I am a gymnast and am working out 30 hours a week. The coach I am with requires that we are homeschooled/virtual and we have found that online classes have been better for me for the most part.
that's an awful lot to have on your plate at one time. 30 hours a week devoted to sports or any other interest was simply out of the question for me when I was in HS and college. Unfortunately you may have to decide which is more important for you: sports/gymastics or academics; It's pretty much your decision, but whatever you decide, there will be consequences.
I was in virtual school for 2 years before I went to this coach and it has worked out great other than a few things such as this that I have trouble on.
I'd strongly suggest that you discuss this with one or both of your parents, your teacher, your counselor ( if you have one) , or anyone else you look up to. I have no easy solution for you; I can help you with almost any questions you want to ask, but I cannot teach you the material from Ground Zero.
Ok, thank you for trying.
I haven't tried, really; I've tried to describe the reality of your situation as I see it.
The later part of your question is going to take a great deal of time and effort to understand and process. Without practice at such things as "contingency tables," it's too much to expect of yourself to design and carry out a research study (which is actually what you're b eing asked to do). Do contact me via OpenStudy if you want to talk about this more; I'd be glad to do whatever I could, within reason, other than attempting to teach all of these concepts from scratch.
Thank you, Jess. I'm really with you. Again: contact me if you need/want to, in regard to this course. Best to you. MM
@mathmale i have this same problem, can you help me ?
