A ship travels 200 km west from port and then 240 km due south before it is disabled. Illustrate this in a vector diagram. USe trig to find the course that a rescue ship must take from port in order to reach the disabled ship.

okay so i got the angle on the top right but i don't understand why you report it as 210 degree

50 something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, that's what im getting too. 50.20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it should be 230, following the reference angles rule ofcourse

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not sure though :)

Assume angle A is postive and less than 360 o (2Pi), we have 4 possible cases: 1. If angle A is in quadrant I then the reference angle A r = A. 2. If angle A is in quadrant II then the reference angle A r = 180 o - A if A is given degrees and A r = Pi - A if A is given in radians. 3. If angle A is in quadrant III then the reference angle A r = A - 180 o if A is given degrees and A r = A - Pi if A is given in radians. 4. If angle A is in quadrant IV then the reference angle A r = 360 o - A if A is given degrees and A r = 2Pi - A if A is given in radians.
