You missed something, its (√x-9)-4 = 1

Add 4 to both sides,

√x+9 = 5

Square both sides,

x+9 = 25
-9 -9
Subtract 9 from both sides,

x = 16.

Plug in 16 and simplify, if it gives you a false statement i.e, 11 = 20 then its extraneous
