I need to be able to produce smoke or fog without using water or any chemical. Is this possible. My grandson has a State science fair in mid March and the safety committe said no water for his mist fogger. He has a Tornado Simulator. I hope someone can HELP.

Dry ice. or in other words, solid carbon dioxide.

How are you not allowed to use water? Does that also include ice and using a match.

Louisiana is using the ISEF rules. You can drink water but not put in your project. . No chemical allowed. I think this is hopeless. He won at school then Reginal and with no smoke he cannot win.

His Tornado simulator was set up with mist fogger using water , now I do not know what to do.

dry ice is non toxic. It should be safe to use. Just make sure that you wear proper hand safety attire, such as gloves. solid CO\(_2\) has the potential to give frost bites.

i think solid \(CO_2\) is the best option, but you could also use ethylene glycol in combination with some device that vaporizes it (like an "electronic cigarrete").
