@mebs

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Do you see that each one has 6 rectangles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

But he is only going to paint the sides so we need to find the area of the four sides and double that answer.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What are the dimensions of the front and back?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so we do surface area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure i dont understand how to find the surface area

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What does the problem ask you to find?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much paint he needs for each side of the flower beds so the surface area

OpenStudy (mertsj):

do you understand that the sides are the front and back and the right side and left side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (mertsj):

What are the dimensions of the front?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically there are two flower beds so we find the SA of 1 flower bed and multiply by two. The SA of a rectangle is = l*w. 2(Surface area of flower bed)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Ok. Mebs wants to help you now. Good luck.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks mertsj

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2( 2*(2*6) + 2*(2*5)) = ? where 2 by 6 and 2 by 5 are the dimensions of the side of the flower bed. Multuply it by two because there are two sides to paint for each flower bed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 24 square feet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(24+20) = 2(44) = 88 ft^2
