OpenStudy (anonymous):

I try and I keep getting the wrong answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

59.81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Based on my answer sheet the answer is 59 29/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, you needed a mixed fraction!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so the fractional form is 2153/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 2153 goes into 36, 59 29/36 times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you understand how I got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so 36 is your denominator right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and 2153 is your numerator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well to get a simplified form of the fraction you cannot reduce it into a whole number. so you must create a mixed fraction. Therefore you see how many times 2153 goes into 36 which is 59 times but you have 29 left over so that leaves you with 59 29/36. because the denominator stays the same since you cannot reduce it with a whole number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make more sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since I am not good at math how should I know 2153 is 59 since it's a big number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an easy way is to take 2153 and divide it by 36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since 2153 is a big number and will not divide into a whole number nicely you know it must be a mixed fraction. so if you divide 2153 by 36 it will give you 59 29/36

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can you should me if you don't mind. I did that but got something different
