4x+2(x+4)=-28 solve for x in simplest form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to do this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not really

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first thing you need to do is take 2(x+4) and simplify it which youll get: 2x+8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 4x+2x+8 = -28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup..then combine like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by combine do you mean add?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 6x+8 = -28?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup...then subtract 8 on both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 6x = -36 then dont you divide 6 on boh sides? So the answer would be x = -6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup^^
