Hmmm...  well, it is a modern work, so the historical context is going to be recent.  For a contrast, only thing I can think of is if you put it in an older context.  For example, how she talks in the end about not being white and in the middle about witches.  So, if you went back to early America, would that get published?  What would the puritans say?
