evaluate 216÷t³ t=-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

t = -8 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

er... just -8 haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so if there is no set of parentheses around the -3 it would mean \[-(3*3*3)\] which equals -27 and \[216 \div -27\] equals -8 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to check take -8 times -27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you see how? :)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@Karrie135 Actually, it's not quite like that, but because of the negative number raised to an odd exponent, your answer came out correct anyway.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\( 216 \div t^3\) for t = -3 \(= 216 \div (-3)^3 \) \(= 216 \div (-27) \) \(= -8\)

Oh ok thanks for letting me know I was doing it wrong :) @mathstudent55
