explain what specific heat capacity is, how it varies from one substance to another, and its effects on weather and climate.
do u know wats heat capacity?
nope not at all actually o:
ok..Heat Capacity ,is the amount of HEAT that u need to give to a SUBSTANCE to raise its temperature......by 1 degree C
But for the SAME material,,, more the mass ,, more the heat u need to supply,,,,,,EG: u need to supply hell lot of heat to a HUGE ship to raise its temperature by 1 degree.......but to raise the temperature of a small plate (of same material (steel) or (iron),,,that ship was made out of ) ,, u need to supply only little heat
So the SHIP has a LARGE heat capacity,,,,,but the plate has a small one....
But its diffficult to know the heat capaciyies of each and every object on earth,,,,so they introduced specific heat capacity which is independent of mass ,,,,but depends only on the material
Specific HEat capacity is nothng but HEAT CAPACITY of 1 kg (unit mass) of the chosen substance.......so if specific heat capacity of the plate was 420 J/kg/K.....what does it mean???
it means that the plate has a small heat capacity?o.o
forget about that.....what does it mean physically?
i have no clue ;-;
ok. it means that u need to supply 420 joules of heat to raise the temperature of 1 kg of that plate, get it?
ok,,,suppose the ship was made ONLY out of steel,, then wat wud be its specific heat capacity? (ship's)?
I'm not sure ;-;
,since the ship was made out of same material,,,the ship also has the same specific heat capacity...420
so does that mean it remains the same from one substance to another? like no matter what the substance is the specific heat going from one to another remains the same?
NO......what make u think so? ,,,as an analogy ,, lets think of DENSITY,,,,,do u think densities of ALL materials on earth are same?
noooo o:
density is mass/volume,,,,what does it really mean? in simple terms density is nothing but MASS of a substance whose total volume is 1 cm cube
similarly , Specific heat capacity is nothing but heat capacity of I kg of the substance
