OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u guy try to figure it out

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

What does "3 wholes" mean? 3 whole inches?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in miles i suppose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so sort of like 3 1/2 miles

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Two cities can't be 3 1/2 miles apart on the map unless you have a really, really large map. Since "3 wholes and 1/2 inch" refers to a map distance, I will assume it means 3 1/2 inches on the map.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The cities are 3.5 inches apart on the map, and each inch on the map represents 20 miles of real distance. What is the real distance? Since 1 in. represents 20 miles, 3.5 in. represents 3.5 * 20 miles Just multiply 3.5 * 20

ok
