Simplify the rational expression. (x^2+10x+25)/(x^2+9x+20)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

factor the numerator and denominator \[\frac{(x +5)(x+5)}{(x+4)(x+5)}\] now just remove the common factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm confused about the 9x, how is that factored?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This simplified is (5+5)/(9+2)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well what are the factors of 20 that add to 9.... 4 + 5 and 4 x 5 thats how you can factor the numerator to (x +4)(x + 5)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

oops the denominator... not numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahhh, i finally get it! Thank you!
