Geometry question... There's a picture that is 4" by 6". How should you trim the picture so that you can then enlarge it an have it fit in an 5" by 7" frame? Help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to trim it so the ratio is the same. 5:7=2.5:3.5 so you would have to trim 1.5" and 2.5"

Can you explain more? Because I still don't understand what you mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to be able to enlarge a photo to 5 by 7, you need to have the same ration of 5:7 and since 4:6 is smaller than 5:7 you cant cut off anything to make it that size. instead you need to reduce the 5;7 ratio even more, which means fractions. the easiest thing to do is divide both numbers by two. therefore you get 2.5 and 3.5. since those numbers are less than 4 and 6 you can cut 1.5" off the 4" side and 2.5" off the 6" side
