Partials questions: Does (dt/dv)(dv/du)= dt/du ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just trying to simplify

This looks like chain rule for single variable function rather than multivarialbe function

I started with dx^2+dt^2=ds^2=dv^2-v^2du^2 where x(u,v) and t(u,v) so dx=(dx/du)(du)+(dx/dv)(dv) and the same sort of thing for dt. but when I tried to plug it all in for dt^2 and dx^2 I got a (dt/dv)(dv/du) term which I can't figure out if that simplifies
